Donald and I have remained friends over the years. We worked together on the Coty Awards shows where they used to put on big performances and have special awards for the best designers.

It was the equivalent of the CFDA Awards today. We also collaborated on textile design. Once a friend came back from Russia with some marvelous printed fabrics. Julian Tomchin, a designer for Maxwell Textiles, put one of the patterns in his line and received a Coty award for it. As a matter of fact, the same print is in the gown with the big scarf featured in your show.

Donald designed all these wonderful things that I've worn. I have photographs of myself at my engagement party wearing one of Donald's things.

His clothes were perfect for me and for the moment because that was the moment when you looked like a lady.

If I didn't have Donald's clothes I was having my clothes made by a dressmaker on 53rd Street who worked with all the magazine people. She even did my wedding dress. Whenever I needed something that was tasteful, I would go to her or Donald.

All my clothes were beautiful at that time because everything was the best quality, the best fabric, and the best make.
