Designing in the Sixties
(Continued)

The black gown with the gold beads was from the spring Donald Brooks Boutique line. Actually, you could wear these garments today. That dress was great and I still wear it. The slits on the skirt are quite high. If you wanted to be a little risqué when you sat down, it showed quite a bit of leg but when you stood up - who would notice except when you walked?

I will wear it again, sew up the side slits a little bit and it will be perfect. It came with a shawl with tassels on it for a little covering, which I thought was very attractive. The tiered sleeve dress was worn often, too, but it was more for a black tie event. It was an entrance maker and I love it because it is monastic and cut high at the neck.

The clothes are still in excellent condition and were made by the Italian seamstresses from the old school. It was fun to go into the workrooms and watch Louie, the wonderful coat maker and the tailor who was fantastic.

Of course they were guarded like rubies - every house had their workroom and so Donald's was just as valuable as anybody else's.
