From Model to Editor
(Continued)

Of course, as a young editor we were all involved with the clothes and things brought into the meetings. Because I was close to the age of the readers, which is important to a magazine, we were always asked what we felt about the clothes.

Early on there was merchandise being brought in by the fashion editor, Rachel Crespin. It was junior sportswear and coats designed by Donald Brooks.

All the girls just absolutely fell in love with the Donald Brooks' clothes. He was then working for a company called Darbury.

That was my first introduction to Donald and I had to have the blue denim coat he designed with the saddle stitching and red wool jersey lining. Denim was one of my favorites, having worn jeans or dungarees as we called them in college.

Anytime denim was used, I always made sure to buy it. Shortly afterwards, I had heard of an opening at Glamour magazine in the accessories and shoe market so I went for an interview wearing my lucky denim coat.

I wore a red wool jersey dress and that coat to my interview at Glamour and got the job, becoming one of the young editors.
